Dont settle for less !

Not much of a big Saturday racing wise today, some big pots with small fields on offer.

The going at Haydock is soft, heavy in places and judging by the times of the races yesterday it looks nearer the latter.

The 2.30 at Haydock sees 7 of the runners shouldered with 11-9 or more in the fixed brush hurdle and one with over a stone less to carry is Pipe's new french bred recruit Katkeau who is open to any amount of improvement. In fact he recives at least 5lb from every horse in the race which for one trained by David Pipe is a bonus particularly as he knows how to win this race having won the last two runnings with Grand Cru's and Dynaste both 5yo's like Katkeau. At 7/1 he represents good value.

The ex-French trained Katkeau took a strong grip for a long way but looked far from beaten when crashing throughthe third-last. There was no way back from that point but he is readily given another chance, even if dropped in distance. Conor O'Farrell reported that he had twisted his knee when the gelding made a mistake at the third-last hurdle, and was unable to ride out for sixth place.

American Spin, also in the same race, put up a very good time the last time he ran here back in May, also on soft, and his trainer feels that his run at Cheltenham recently will have put him spot on for this and he looks to have been trained specifically for the race. The 16/1 with Ladbrokes has gone but you can still get 14's with some firms and he must be an ew alternative with all 16 runners still in the mix and the only downside being that he has to carry the 11-11 on this sticky going.
