Up a bit, down a bit - 1st June

Sportingbet.com Stakes (Listed Race) - 6f - Good To Firm - Windsor
Bated Breath continued his rise to the top with an impressive win here beating Triple Aspect and Libranno and looks set to step up again and that may well be in a Group 1 next. His trainer had this to say on his website "I was naturally thrilled with Bated Breath who yet again delivered to beat a fairly competitive field readily. Having slightly missed the break Steve Drowne had to give him a "dig in the ribs" so that he did not lose his position which then resulted in him pulling in the early stages, but luckily he relaxed and looked professional as he stretched clear. In the process we lowered Windsors course record for six furlongs in a race that Beckhampton has won previously with Tamarisk and Harmonic Way before they went on to win Group 1 races. As long as he remains in good form, the Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot could be his next race but a decision will not be made until nearer the time". Horseradish finishing 5th beaten 5 1/4 lengths must give connections of Hoof It hope of stepping up to a higher level. Monsieur Joe finished 7th of the 8 and has been dropped 4lb to a mark of 105 but he probably needs to be dropped a bit further yet.

Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Handicap - Class 5 - 3yo - 6f Good - Ripon
Barkston Ash made it a hat trick of wins which has seen him win off marks of 56, 61 and 68 and he now goes up a further 7lb to 75 for this 1 1/4 length victory from Nine Before Ten. Eric Alston is doing very well and whose to know when this horses improvement will come to an end, he has no entries at present but we should keep a look out for him.

This was won by Flowing Cape from Collect Art but the one worth keeping an eye on is Mango Music who didnt have a clear run. She was rated in the eighties in 2008 and only being on 76 is capable of stepping up a liile bit further on this.

G Casino Handicap  - Class 4 - 3yo - 5f Good To Firm - Haydock
Sir Michael Stoute took this with Apace who won by 1 1/2 lengths from David Barron's Gottcher with Cruise Tothelimit in 3rd. The winner has been raised 7lb to a mark of 87 and her improvement doesnt look like coming to an end just yet on this performance.
